The Rocket City FurMeet Roundup: October 2008 Edition The Rocket City Furmeet Roundup October 2008 Edition ~RCFM has a BRAND NEW Hotel!~ Hey Y'all! Yes, it's finally official. After a LOT of discussions and contract negotiations RCFM has signed a contract with the Embassy Suites hotel, near downtown Huntsville. Look toward downtown when you're on the Parkway between Clinton and Bob Wallace - it's the BIG building with a large, green "E" on it. This hotel is Brand Spanky New! They completed construction on the building over a year ago and have quickly become the primary place to stay for anyone attending events at the nearby Von Braun Civic Center. The interior of the 10-story building is one giant atrium, much like the garden court at MFM, and all the rooms look out onto this open area. (Well, they have windows onto the balconies/hallways, but you get the idea.) ALL the rooms in the new hotel are Suites, larger than the rooms in the Radisson Suite hotel. Our room rate is going up to $109/night, but this is almost HALF the regular rate for these rooms. Our new Hotel Liaison Malaki performed a negotiating miracle to make all this happen, and you will LOVE the place when you see it. The rooms have 2 flat-panel TV's apiece, microwaves, bar fridges and SO many amenities that it's difficult to list it all. But each room reservation ALSO comes with a complimentary restaurant breakfast, FREE internet connection, and an invitation to the 2-hour Manager's Reception every evening. (Free bar, in case you don't know what that means.) (!) They also have a Ruth's Chris steakhouse built in on the ground floor, if you like Meat. BUT, we're planning catering arrangements to run through a buffet line as the meal events for RCFM. So we STILL plan to continue feeding everyone all weekend long! This is a BEAUTIFUL building and when I saw these rooms I wanted to move in and LIVE in this hotel! You will NOT want to miss RCFM this year, if just to see and stay in the new hotel. Well, it can! That is if you want something new, then now is the time to suggest your ideas for new panels and events for the RCFM 7 - before all the prime slots and rooms are taken - and so RCFM will continue to be MAGNIFICENT! All we need at this point is an email with your badge name, your real name (in case we have to contact you,) and something about your idea for a panel (about 3-4 sentences) to rcfm.programming@gmail.com. Even if you don't want to run a panel, tell us what you want to see "in" a panel - and maybe we'll be able to get others involved and to join in the resulting fun! Since we're going to be rescheduling everything with the new hotel, and the new rooms - almost anything is possible! But too, we'll have the same things that you said were great last year - in the same time slots this year. And yes, there will be all the favorites from before - dances - and videos - and live performances - and the furry variety show - and games - and art - and food events! The other main requirement for submissions is that they must be received by our Conbook Editor, Samii Tiger, before the conbook deadline of April 3rd, 2009 to be considered for the conbook. Please note that the editor of the conbook reserves the right to edit all submissions for content and space requirements.
